Paying securely can mean different things depending on what and where you are buying.

Tips for staying secure paying online ✍️

What staying secure means to me?

If you buy something physical your greatest fear is being scamed or not receiving your goods. But if you shop for digital services your transaction volume is quite low and you probalbly interact with a small website/service you to not know and do not want to trust with valuable private information that can be misused. These private informations are your home address, date of birth and especially payment related information like credit card numbers.

Buying physical goods is different to shop for digital services

Keeping your personal information like home address save is pretty simple. Use fake data and either use temp email providers like sharkmail or at least have a special email address or forwarding address, that can be easily disposed. Keep your main email address for important stuff. In case your junk email address gets massively spam you can dispose it and create a new one.

How about paying stuff?

So you found a service and need to pay them. If they offer bitcoin payments you should use that option. Buy some bitcoin, probably more than you need for your current shopping tour and transfer the coins from the exchange you bought from to your personal wallet. Bitcoin price is volatile but it is not infinite like traditional money, so over time it will almost certainly gain value. Of course we are speaking about shopping money (peanuts), do not put your life savings into bitcoin. To secure high amounts of bitcoin money you should exactly know what you are doing or else you risk losing everything to a catastrofig disk failure, lost password or some malware.

If the seller does not provide bitcoin payment options, you can use a disposeable

Rich editing at your fingertips

The editor can also handle rich media objects, called cards, which can be organised and re-ordered using drag and drop.

You can insert a card either by clicking the  +  button, or typing  /  on a new line to search for a particular card. This allows you to efficiently insert images, markdown, html, embeds and more.

For example:

  • Insert a video from YouTube directly by pasting the URL
  • Create unique content like buttons or forms using the HTML card
  • Need to share some code? Embed code blocks directly
<header class="site-header outer">
    <div class="inner">
        {{> "site-nav"}}
    </div>
</header>

It's also possible to share links from across the web in a visual way using bookmark cards that automatically render information from a websites meta data. Paste any URL to try it out:
